VICODIN ADDICTION

Vicodin addiction is a very serious illness, and vicodin addiction can deem fatal. Vicodin addiction is considered a disease by the medical field. Vicodin addiction is not alone in this classification. All drug addiction is considered a disease therefore vicodin addiction is also in that class. The main thing to know about vicodin addiction is that it is destructive to the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of the human, and that it can kill.

What is so tricky about vicodin addiction is the most popular way it starts. The story of vicodin addiction usually begins with a simple surgery. The doctor, knowing the patient will be in pain, prescribes them with pain medication. Being that vicodin is a great painkiller it is one of the more popularly prescribed painkillers. And what makes vicodin and other strong painkillers different from over-the-counter painkillers is that it is derived from an opiate. Opium is the same drug used to manufacture heroin. Opium is extremely addicting. This makes it very difficult to become sober after becoming addicted to vicodin.

Once the patient is prescribed the painkiller they will begin to use it as directed. If the person steps outside the recommended dosage they have begun to abuse the drug. If they continually step outside the doctor prescribed dosage they might begin the cycle of addiction. Once addiction to the drug has begun the road to sobriety becomes a much rougher road.

The body will become physically addicted to vicodin within the first weeks of use. This means that in order for the body to feel normal it will want at least a small amount of vicodin in its system. The person will then become mentally addicted to the drug. What this means is that the person now thinks that the only way to feel normal is by taking the drug.

As powerful as physical and mental vicodin addiction is they are no match for emotional vicodin addiction. The person will begin to take the drug in order to feel emotionally normal. What causes this to occur is the person takes the drug in order to feel happy. They will begin to take it so often that they no longer quite reach happiness, but they do reach normal. When they begin to take the drug in order to feel normal they are in trouble.

In order for them to ever feel normal they must become sober and free from vicodin addiction. The first step in this process is being admitted into a treatment program. Opiate addiction is just too powerful to handle alone. A team of trained counselors is needed in order to assist them in attaining sobriety. If the vicodin addict does not become sober they may end up dying from an overdose.
