PRESCRIPTION DRUG ABUSE
Prescription drug abuse is a very unique form of addiction, because
prescription drug abuse can begin with just a simple surgery. Prescription
drug abuse plagues many different types of people, from a housewife
all the way to the homeless person on the street. Prescription drug
abuse might even be the reason that the person is on the street
in the first place. What makes prescription drug abuse such a unique
form of drug abuse is the fact that it can start off so very small.
Prescription drug abuse can begin with a simple operation and then
the doctor might prescribe a painkiller and this could easily begin
the process.
The path to prescription drug abuse can be
a long path or it can be a short path. It might begin as stated
earlier with simple surgery. After the surgery is completed the
doctor will prescribe the patient with a painkiller. This painkiller
is usually an opiate-based painkiller. These opiate painkillers
are vicodin, percocet, lorcet, codeine, and some others. Once
a person takes the first pill their body will begin to take the
chemical into the blood stream.
Once the chemical is in the blood stream the
person will begin to feel the effect of the drug. Once the effect
is felt the person may begin to feel the want for more. If the
person begins to take more and more of the drug, abuse has begun.
Prescription drug abuse begins when the person begins to take
the drug even when they don't need to. When the person begins
to ingest the painkiller against better judgment is when addiction
has begun.
These two forms of abuse, one when the person
takes it when they don't need it, and the other, when the person
takes it against better judgment, is the thin line between addiction
and abuse.
The frightening thing about this is that even
though it is a fine line between abuse and addiction the difference
between strength of abuse and addiction is enormous. Addiction
is a disease that once it has begun it is extremely difficult
to stop.
Prescription drug abuse if caught in the early
stages may be easily stopped. If you or someone you love is having
difficulty stopping use of prescription drugs then there may be
a larger problem ensuing. If you see this happening the first

escalated to prescription drug addiction can be fatal. What might
happen is the abuser can take a few pills and become inebriated.

in the first place. They might take more. If this continues they
could overdose and this might deem fatal.
