ALCOHOLISM

Alcoholism is a powerful disease, and alcoholism is considered one of the biggest problems in America today. Alcoholism causes people to do many things that they would not do if they were of sober mind. Alcoholism kills many people each year. But even though alcoholism seems too powerful to do battle with, there is hope. Spencer Recovery Centers offer recovery from alcoholism.

The addiction to alcohol can occur two ways. The person can take their first sip and then right off the bat they want more. Then the addiction grows from that point on. The other way is much slower. Years of drinking can compound until the drinker is addicted. Either way the disease is just as powerful.

It doesn't matter how much a person drinks or how often. What matters is if, when they try to quit drinking they can't, and if for some reason they can it is short lived and followed by an even larger binge.

Alcoholism affects many aspects of the human being. The first and most obvious is the body. The consumption of alcohol kills brain cells immediately. But slowly it deteriorates the liver and can lead to heart disease. No matter what if the drinking continues it will lead to death.

Alcoholism also affects the emotional aspect of the human being. Many drinkers drink in order to cover up their emotions, and when they become sober those emotions return in a very painful way, causing confusion and anxiety.

During the drinking many people are affected. Relationships are torn and things are done that would not have been if the person were sober. There are many negative aspects of alcoholism. The main being that not only does it affect the things stated above it also affects the spiritual side of life.

Many people withdraw into themselves leaving no room for anyone or anything else. They begin to cut themselves off from the rest of society. This isolation fuels their ability to continue drinking.

This is one of the most powerful diseases out there. And being that it is a disease it should be treated that way. People that suffer from alcoholism are not bad people. They have a physical disease. Many doctors call it an allergy to alcohol. Not only are their bodies affected by the intake of alcohol so are their minds and emotions.

We at Spencer Recovery Centers understand that alcoholism is a disease and we treat each patient with this in mind. We offer a rigorous program to help get people sober and assist them in staying sober.
